We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated School Nurse to support the emotional, mental, physical, and social health of students from Pre-K through 8th grade. As a vital member of our educational team, the School Nurse will provide essential health services, manage care for students with chronic health conditions or disabilities, administer medications, and collaborate with parents, teachers, and administrators to create and enforce individualized care plans.
Start Pay: $60,000 yearly
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routine health screenings, including hearing, vision, and other assessments.
- Provide care for students experiencing illness or injury, following established nursing procedures and referring to medical professionals as needed.
- Develop and implement care plans for students with ongoing health conditions.
- Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, and staff to ensure students receive appropriate care and support.
- Administer prescribed medications in accordance with board policies, monitoring for side effects.
- Maintain and monitor student immunization records and confidential health information.
- Educate students and staff on health topics, such as dental hygiene, asthma management, first aid, and safety.
- Manage COVID-19-related information, including documentation, contact tracing, student tracking, and parent communications.
- Document medications received from parents and dispensed to students in compliance with applicable laws.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with state immunization requirements, referring cases for follow-up as necessary.
- Perform health screenings and refer students for further evaluation when needed.
- Maintain accurate health records and prepare state-mandated annual reports.
- Continuously monitor the school environment for safety concerns and address them proactively.
- Consult with students, staff, and the community regarding injuries and current health issues.
- Identify and address student health care problems, developing specialized care plans when necessary.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
- RN or LPN license (preferred).
Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of nursing experience (required).
- Experience working with school-age children or as a school nurse (preferred).
- Familiarity with caring for children with disabilities (preferred).
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or willingness to complete training.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
- Experience with student data management systems such as SIS or Infinite Campus (preferred).
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to respond calmly and compassionately in various situations.
- A team-oriented mindset with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.

Schedule
This is a 12-month position. Core hours are 7:15 AM to 4:00 PM during the school year (August to May). Summer months (June and July) will involve preparation for the upcoming school year with some flexibility.
